worthwhile, or will cost so much that it is a new ring with others? I want to be nice and thick and hold the stone at the top.

It depends on the quality and quantity of stones on the side, as the price may vary. Platinum is that it will cost a little more than white gold. The shine of platinum is not so bright. I suspect that the white metal instead of looking for yellow gold.
Diamond prices is easy to change the size and quality. If you change the color, the price change, but to see it. You have a diamond, is your starting point. If the stone is a good "voyeur" and use your jeweler left side of the stone as close, or perhaps a light downward. If a loss is too high, too low, will not be a good addition.
Also note that the higher adherence to clothes, chips and maybe you lose your stone or other children, or whatever .... Husband. Also, remember that this is a good addition to your hand. Excessive exaggerate the ring rather than a partnership between your hands, nails and ring.
Finally, only you can decide whether it's worth it.
While no doubt the diamond and 4C in the quality and quantity of diamonds depends vote. Platinum setting would probably be pretty expensive talk, but only from your local jeweler and compare the prices of different jewelers.
